Game 4: Rebels 18 - El Monte 12

A mistake filled afternoon for the Rebels ended in a 18 - 12 victory over the El Monte Jets. The Rebels committed 3 fumbles, 1 interception, and a muffed punt inside our own 20 yard line giving El Monte great field position.

After a scoreless 1st quarter, the El Monte Jets scored on a 24 yd pass giving them a 6 - 0 lead. These Rebels quickly responded with a 52 yd run by RB #15 Darian Lara.

The Rebels took the 2nd half kick and after a long 48 yd run by RB #9 Angel Hidalgo, RB #23 Robert Montanez scored on a 5 yd TD run up the middle. El Monte had a good kickoff return, then took the ball inside the 5 yd line on another big 30 yd pass play setting up a 1st and goal. The Rebel D stayed stong and held the Jets on 4 straight plays, when the referee flagged the D on a phantom face mask infraction giving El Monte one more chance. They tied up the score at 12 - 12 heading into the 4th quarter.

The only score in the 4th quarter was by the Rebels when QB #10 Adam Polanco threw a 1 yd hitch pass to WR #81 Seth Cloud, who juked 2 defenders, ran over 2 more, then outran the other 7 Jets down the sideline for an 80 yard TD.

With the Rebels up 18 - 12, El Monte was trying to pass its way down the field, when CB #11 Esteban "Mamba" Rodriguez intercepted a pass that would have sealed the game, but on the interception return, the ball was jarred free, giving El Monte one more chance. They got inside the Rebel 15 yd line, when the final seconds ticked off the clock...the Rebels had survived their own mistakes and kept their winning streak at 3 games in a row.

Game 1: Rebels 12 - Covina Vikings 25

Today's captains: #81 Seth Cloud, #9 Angel Hidalgo, #65 Isaiah "Chino" Mercado, & #10 Adam Polanco

DE #10 Adam Polanco chases down a Viking runner, while DT #57 Kain Sanchez and DL #65 Chino Mercado swarm to the ball.

#81 Seth Cloud returns a kickoff 65 yards for our 1st score of the season.

LB #15 Darian Lara intercepts a pass and returns it 50 yards to the 3 yard line.

FS #9 Angel Hidalgo makes the sure tackle as DL #63 Christian Settecase looks to assist.

After a hard fought game, the teams shake hands at midfield.
It was a hot afternoon for football with temperatures reaching 106 degrees at kickoff. The Rebels played a sloppy brand of football today, could be the heat or could have been 1st game gitters, but a tough Covina Viking team made the plays in the end to secure a 25 - 12 victory.

The Rebel Defense gave up 2 long touchdowns on missed tackles. A third TD was scored on a batted ball that was intercepted and returned all the way. The Rebel offense was turned away on a 1st and Goal from inside the 5 late in the 2nd quarter.

The two Rebel TDs were scored by WR #81 Seth Cloud. the first, coming on a kickoff return of 65 yards, the second on a 50 yard beautiful leaping pass reception over a Covina defender.

I expect a better overall team performance as the Rebels travel to Temple City to take on the Rams.

Scrimmage #2 vs. Baldwin Park

DE Anthony Morales intercepts a pass and returns it for a TD

DT Kain Sanchez sacks the Baldwin Park quarterback
FB Isaiah "Chino" Mercado rumbles down the field for about a 20 yard run

OL Richard Hernandez III picks up a Baldwin Park pass rusher
The REBELS hosted the Baldwin Park Road Runners for this seasons second scrimmage. The REBELS started the game very slow and played uninspired football. They played to the level of their opponent instead of the normal brand of REBEL football. After hearing it from the coaches during halftime, the REBELS came out firing in the 2nd half scoring 6 TDs, while posting a shutout on defense.

Tri-City Scrimmage

QB Adam Polanco ready to pass
RB Angel Hidalgo runs for a TD
DB Mario Menchaca with the interception
The REBEL O-Line
Today the Rosemead Rebel Pee-Wee team opened up the pre-season with it's Annual Tri-City scrimmage. This year's teams included the Boyle Heights Wolfpack and the Pico Rivera Dons.

The REBELS played well and finished the scrimmage scoring 6 TDs (3 vs BH & 3 vs PR) and only allowing 1 score against our defense on a long run by Boyle Heights.

As always, there are things to work on and get better as a complete team, but it was a very nice showing for the 1st scrimmage of the season.
